THOMAS E. KELLY, Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist, Clinic Director (he/him)
Dr. Kelly is a Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Professional Counselor with 37 years of experience treating children, adolescents, and adults. His training and practice developmental path as a Clinical Psychologist has evolved in some very distinct and unique directions over the course of his career, much like the many unique developmental paths – sometime divergent, sometimes related, always connected – of the individuals he has had the privilege to serve.
Dr. Kelly has worked in a variety of mental health settings and with a variety of levels of care including residential treatment for adolescents, inpatient treatment for children / adolescents and adults, and outpatient treatment for children, adolescents, and adults. In addition to a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology, he also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy Studies and Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from the University of Chicago. Doctoral clinical internship training was at the Manhattan Psychiatric Center in New York. He has worked in a variety of unique classroom settings for children with special needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum. Training at the Sonia Shankman Orthogenic School at the University of Chicago and Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago for more than a decade within each setting provided an important early training foundation.
Dr. Kelly began his professional work in psychology as a Milieu Counselor for children with severe emotional disturbances and children on the autism spectrum. He has worked with this population in a variety of roles since 1986. Over the years training and treatment expanded in a variety of niche areas including Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) notably for child survivors of sexual abuse, as well as adolescent and adult problematic sexual behaviors. He also directs an inpatient sex-specific treatment program in Forensic Psychology in Saint Peter, MN.
Dr. Kelly has extensive experience working with parents, teachers, school settings, and juvenile/adult probation officers. His early training and work in a psychoanalytically oriented psychodynamic milieu provided a lens through which he currently practices cognitive-behavioral and insight-oriented psychotherapy approaches to helping individuals make positive life changes. A more recent focus of interest has been helping older adults navigate stage of life stressors and developmental changes over time.
Dr. Kelly also performs Psychological and Psychosexual Testing Assessments for children, adolescents, and adults.
